In a crisis, prayer is an outlet for emotions and it gives us a way to feel like we're doing something for the family/situation.

Also, I use prayer as a way to remember and think about each individual person on my prayer list. So what if fate has already been decided, I can still pray!

Oooh, girl, you're in for a pastor's wife answer...

1. Simply, because God has asked us to talk with him

2. God has selected prayer as a vehicle through which he works. Yes, God is absolutely sovereign and omniscient, but he has invited us to join him in his renewal of this world through prayer. We can't assume that prayer is a magic ticket to make God act (because if that were so, what kind of God would he be? He'd only be as good as a genie in a bottle...), but instead, prayer is a way to commune with God, to join into his will. He promises to hear our prayers, and that's why we pray.

[clears throat and steps down from soapbox]

We recently discussed this in small group and the best answer we came up with was simply - JESUS PRAYED.

I know I'm late in answering this question but have read the book "The Shack" ? It's a must read and will definately impact the way you think about who God is.
